Caesar Augustus (63BC - 14AD), was the first Emperor of the Roman Empire, ruling alone from 31 BC. This bust is replicated from a marble statue excavated in 1863 at Prima Porta near Rome and now displayed at the Vatican Museum. Caesar Augustus, whose great uncle was Julius Caesar, is depicted in armour as commander-in-chief of the Roman army. These statues are made using cast limestone with a surface texture similar to that of portland stone. In a number of important ways it is markedly superior, one of its greatest advantages being price, which, piece for piece, is normally significantly less than that of quarried stone. As well as for use in gardens, lawn, terraces, courtyards, borders and woodland, this statue can also be used in interior design schemes, in a hall, library, stairway or reception room.
